RedditKarl Rove has spent a career putting politics before due process, democracy and civil rights. So it's not surprising that when recently faced with a subpoena from Congress, Rove refused to testify. This refusal was a violation of federal law -- Rove's attorney Robert Luskin asserted executive privilege as an excuse to ignore Congress; however, President Bush has not invoked the privilege. (And why would he since that would be an admission that the President sought advice on the politicization of the Department of Justice.)
Since Rove regards the law with such contempt, it's high time the law and Congress hold him in contempt as well. Our friends at Brave New Films have launched a new video campaign and petition asking the House Judiciary Committee to cite former presidential adviser Karl Rove with contempt for failing to comply with a Congressional subpoena. The video explains the issues surrounding Rove's failure to testify and makes a compelling case that he should be held in contempt and sent to jail. Watch the video and sign the petition.
The video has already been viewed over 90,000 times and nearly 65,000 people have signed the petition. Next week BNF will hold a press conference in Washington, DC after the petition is delivered and the goal is secure at least 100,000 signatures before then. Add your name to this growing protest.

I can't stand Rove because he called me and my son unpatriotic while my son was in Iraq, fighting for his right to say that. But He's not going to jail. The House Judiciary Committee is a joke. Six months from now you'll hardly ever hear Rove's name mentioned unless he a guest commentator on Hannity.

Still LVL. Doesn't matter their reason for doing it. Ignoring a subpoena is illegal. You always claim the left has no respect for the rule of law but you are defending Rove for breaking the law. He has to come before the House Judiciary because executive privilege won't apply here. If he doesn't, then like any other citizen he should be put in jail for his crime.

you know, that's funny, because the constitution allows for the congress to practice the role of 'oversight,' an extension of which is subpoena authority.
so to claim that this isn't about congress performing its oath to uphold the constitution, then you are woefully incorrect.

Sorry LL, but a privilege has to be invoked by a party with a right to invoke it before it can apply. It is the President's privilege, not that of his ex-aides. Rove has no standing to invoke it. You also overlook the fact that the privilege, when properly invoked, is only a presumption and not absolute. Hence SCOTUS's overruling of it in United States v. Nixon, using a "competing interests" argument.
What we have here is only a generalized assumption that the communications in question were needed for key Executive functions (no indication of military, diplomatic or national security secrets) against the fact that Congress is exercising its legitimate oversight function and Rove's information is key to that.

We have a do nothing undemocratic congress trying to upsurb the constitution, supreme court, and executive branch powers in a purely partison attempt to grab the reins of government for themselves. Why don't they read the constitution they are sworn to uphold and do some real business for the people for a change?That would really be different!!!
They are more like little children sent to school to learn who instead write in their books, daydream, then on any real test haven't got a clue!

its going to be really funny to watch these people babbling about the "unitary president" and "executive privilege" turn into horribly angry, angry figures demanding impeachment, hanging, etc. for people in the upcoming Democratic presidential administration, when these figures do anything at all controversial or even things not at all controversial.

The thing that goads me about this issue is that the current administration has provided us with 'itself' as the sole arbiter of what constitutes justice... by allowing no other viewpoints or interpretations of it's actions to 'encroach' upon it's 'sovereignty'.
But... the US is supposed to be governed by a 'balance of power'... with no single branch consistently 'deciding' the constitutional relevance of all of it's own actions... in their entirety.
For the public welfare, for the common good.
So... though I am not calling for 'blood'... or jail... it is actually only accountability I am wishing for in our Government today.
An administration that 'answers to no one'... in a Democracy founded on the principles implicit in the 'checks and balance' of power between the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches... and indeed... the 'separation of powers'...
...is a dangerous precedent to set.
You could almost call it 'undemocratic'.
Maybe we should consider taking our system of government in to the shop for a tune-up...;^) ...it doesn't seem to be firing on all of it's cylinders lately...

The argument was that it maintains the separation of powers. However it overrides the ability of the legislative and judicial branch to oversee the executive branch. It removes the system of checks and balances that is in place to stop one branch from gaining too much power.

I can't believe you have the audacity to seriously make such statements. This has nothing to do with checks and balances or oversight.
It is about politics, end of statement. Nothing more.
I have little use for any Congress since the implementation of the 16th amendment (Republican or Democrat). They are virtually useless and merely exist to spend the money of others.

As to the principle of Executive Privilege, it is as old as the nation itself.
Executive privilege, the right of the President to withhold certain information sought by another branch of government, was first claimed by President Jefferson in response to a subpoena from John Marshall in the famous treason trial of Aaron Burr. The Supreme Court's first major pronouncement on the issue, however, did not come until 1974 in United States v Richard Nixon. The case involved the refusal to President Nixon to turn over to Watergate Special Prosecutor Leon Jaworski several hours of Oval Office tapes believed to concern the Watergate break-in and subsequent cover-up. Although the Court unanimously concluded that the Constitution does indeed contain an executive privilege, the Court said the privilege was "presumptive" and not absolute. Balancing the interests in the Nixon case, the Court found the privilege not to extend to the requested Watergate tapes.

if you read further into the history of this executive power, you will also find:

clearly (!), this is not a matter of national security. bush claims privilege only in matters in which he simply doesn't wanna embarass himself, or his aides.

No conundrum here at all.
1. First of all, executive privilege is not limited to issues of national security. That is a pure media spin by the Dems in Congress. I noted some of the history of Exec. Priv and it started with the treason trial of Aaron Burr. It has been used by nearly every president and national security was seldom the reason.
2. In fact, the sharing of information about Valerie Plame Wilson did not originate in the VP's office, but in State via Richard Armitage.
3. And no it obviously did not endanger national security because Fitzgerald knew that Armitage was the original "leaker" and he did not seek any prosecution against Armitage or anyone else on that issue. Do you perhaps have a statement from the CIA that National Security interests were compromised or damaged because of any incident involving Plame/Wilson?
BTW have you completed your move to Canada? What city did you move to? How is the herb business there?

Go to Columnist Page » In her important new book, "The Dark Side: The Inside Story of How the War on Terror Turned Into a War on American Ideals," Jane Mayer of The New Yorker devotes a great deal of space to David Addington, Dick Cheney's main man and the lead architect of the Bush administration's legal strategy for the so-called war on terror.
She quotes a colleague as saying of Mr. Addington: "No one stood to his right." Colin Powell, a veteran of many bruising battles with Mr. Cheney, was reported to have summed up Mr. Addington as follows: "He doesn't believe in the Constitution."
Very few voters are aware of Mr. Addington's existence, much less what he stands for. But he was the legal linchpin of the administration's Marquis de Sade approach to battling terrorism. In the view of Mr. Addington and his acolytes, anything and everything that the president authorized in the fight against terror -- regardless of what the Constitution or Congress or the Geneva Conventions might say -- was all right. That included torture, rendition, warrantless wiretapping, the suspension of habeas corpus, you name it.
This is the mind-set that gave us Abu Ghraib, Guantánamo and the C.I.A.'s secret prisons, known as "black sites."
Ms. Mayer wrote: "The legal doctrine that Addington espoused -- that the president, as commander in chief, had the authority to disregard virtually all previously known legal boundaries if national security demanded it -- rested on a reading of the Constitution that few legal scholars shared."
When the constraints of the law are unlocked by the men and women in suits at the pinnacle of power, terrible things happen in the real world. You end up with detainees being physically and psychologically tormented day after day, month after month, until they beg to be allowed to commit suicide. You have prisoners beaten until they are on the verge of death, or hooked to overhead manacles like something out of the Inquisition, or forced to defecate on themselves, or sexually humiliated, or driven crazy by days on end of sleep deprivation and blinding lights and blaring noises, or water-boarded.
To get a sense of the heights of madness scaled in this anything-goes atmosphere, consider a brainstorming meeting held by military officials at Guantánamo. Ms. Mayer said the meeting was called to come up with ways to crack through the resistance of detainees.
"One source of ideas," she wrote, "was the popular television show ‘24.' On that show as Ms. Mayer noted, "torture always worked. It saved America on a weekly basis."
I felt as if I was in Never-Never Land as I read: "In conversation with British human rights lawyer Philippe Sands, the top military lawyer in Guantánamo, Diane Beaver, said quite earnestly that Jack Bauer ‘gave people lots of ideas' as they sought for interrogation models."
Donald Rumsfeld described the detainees at Guantánamo as "the worst of the worst." A more sober assessment has since been reached by many respected observers. Ms. Mayer mentioned a study conducted by attorneys and law students at the Seton Hall University Law School.
"After reviewing 517 of the Guantánamo detainees' cases in depth," she said, "they concluded that only 8 percent were alleged to have associated with Al Qaeda. Fifty-five percent were not alleged to have engaged in any hostile act against the United States at all, and the remainder were charged with dubious wrongdoing, including having tried to flee U.S. bombs. The overwhelming majority -- all but 5 percent -- had been captured by non-U.S. players, many of whom were bounty hunters."
The U.S. shamed itself on George W. Bush's and Dick Cheney's watch, and David Addington and others like him were willing to manipulate the law like Silly Putty to give them the legal cover they desired. Ms. Mayer noted that Arthur Schlesinger Jr., the late historian, believed that "the Bush administration's extralegal counterterrorism program presented the most dramatic, sustained and radical challenge to the rule of law in American history."
After reflecting on major breakdowns of law that occurred in prior administrations, including the Watergate disaster, Mr. Schlesinger told Ms. Mayer: "No position taken has done more damage to the American reputation in the world -- ever."
Americans still have not come to grips with this disastrous stain on the nation's soul. It's important that the whole truth eventually come out, and as many of the wrongs as possible be rectified.
Ms. Mayer, as much as anyone, is doing her part to pull back the curtain on the awful reality. "The Dark Side" is essential reading for those who think they can stand the truth.

"The whole project was just stopped - end of discussion," he said. In the very next segment on C-SPAN, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu each delivered their own declarations of war in the Knesset. All three leaders, in the US and in Israel, pointed to Syria and Iran as the new front in the "war on terror."
This during a "cease-fire."

You have to keep reminding yourself this is not fantasy: that truly dangerous men, such as Perle and Rumsfeld and Cheney, have power. The thread running through their ruminations is the importance of the media: "the prioritized task of bringing on board journalists of repute to accept our position".
"Our position" is code for lying. Certainly, as a journalist, I have never known official lying to be more pervasive than today. We may laugh at the vacuities in Tony Blair's "Iraq dossier" and Jack Straw's inept lie that Iraq has developed a nuclear bomb (which his minions rushed to "explain"). But the more insidious lies, justifying an unprovoked attack on Iraq and linking it to would-be terrorists who are said to lurk in every Tube station, are routinely channelled as news. They are not news; they are black propaganda.

Leak Scandal Goes To The Top What did the President know and when did he know it? Yesterday, the New York Daily News reported that, according to a "presidential counselor," an "angry President Bush rebuked chief political guru Karl Rove two years ago for his role in the Valerie Plame affair." According to the article, the run-in occurred "shortly after the Justice Department informed the White House in September 2003 that a criminal investigation had been launched." If the report is true, it raises serious questions about the integrity of President Bush's statements about the investigation. (At yesterday's press conference, White House spokesman Scott McClellan refused to dispute the specifics of the article.) The report also suggests that testimony provided to the special prosecutor by Bush and Rove may have been inaccurate.
DID BUSH KNOW WHEN HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW? Josh Marshall notes that on October 7, 2003 -- around the same time as Bush's alleged rebuke of Rove -- Bush said, "I mean this town is a -- is a town full of people who like to leak information. And I don't know if we're going to find out the senior administration official." Bush added, "[T]his is a large administration, and there's a lot of senior officials. I don't have any idea. I'd like to. I want to know the truth." The New York Daily News article suggests that Bush already knew the truth: one of the leakers was Karl Rove.
DID BUSH TELL PROSECUTORS ROVE DENIED ANY INVOLVEMENT? National Journal investigative reporter Murray Waas reported on 10/7/05, "In his own interview with prosecutors on June 24, 2004, Bush also testified that Rove assured him he had not disclosed Plame as a CIA employee and had said nothing to the press to discredit Wilson." Apparently, Rove has been telling a similar story. The AP reported that "Rove told President Bush and others that he never engaged in an effort to disclose a CIA operative's identity to discredit her husband's criticism of the administration's Iraq policy, according to people with knowledge of Rove's account in the probe." These accounts, if true, are completely inconsistent with the facts reported in yesterday's New York Daily News. Although Bush was not under oath, making false statements to a federal agent is still against the law.
EVIDENCE OF A CONSPIRACY: Today, the AP reports that "Rove and I. Lewis 'Scooter' Libby discussed their contacts with reporters about an undercover CIA officer in the days before her identity was published." The conversations are "the first known intersection between two central figures in the criminal leak investigation." According to people familiar with Rove's testimony, "Rove told grand jurors it was possible he first heard in the White House that Valerie Plame, wife of Bush administration Joseph Wilson, worked for the CIA from Libby's recounting of a conversation with a journalist." (Rove has also testified that "he probably first heard of Wilson's wife in a casual social setting outside the White House in the spring of 2003 but could not remember who provided the information.") In a supplement to his responses to the House Judiciary Committee, Patrick Fitzgerald confirms what we've always suspected: Karl Rove was trying to have Patrick Fitzgerald fired while Fitzgerald was still investigating Rove for his role in leaking Valerie Wilson's identity--and the timing lines up perfectly with the Administration's efforts to fire a bunch of US Attorneys.
Remember back in June, when Fitzgerald publicly suggested he had more details to share with Congress about Rove's efforts to get him fired?
"If I owe a response [about the putsch to remove him from his job], I owe it to Congress, first," Fitzgerald said when asked about all this after the verdict.
Well, it turns out Fitzgerald did share those details with Congress. And those details make it clear that Fitzgerald learned Rove was trying to fire him while Fitzgerald was still actively investigating Rove's role in the leak of Valerie Wilson's identity.
In my answers submitted on May 2,2008, I noted in my response to Question Eleven that I omitted discussion of when I first learned that I might be asked to resign as United States Attorney. I declined to answer more fully due to the then pending trial of United States v. Antoin Rezko in the Northern District of Illinois. With that trial concluded, I can briefly elaborate further: I learned some time in or about early 2005 from agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI") that a cooperating witness (who later testified at the Rezko trial, but not about this topic) had advised the FBI agents that he had earlier been told by one of Mr. Rezko's co-schemers that it was the responsibility of a third person in Illinois to have me replaced as United States Attorney. I should be clear that I did not understand that any putative effort to replace me as United States Attorney was related to my conduct as Special Counsel but understood instead that it was related to the investigative activities of federal agents and prosecutors conducting a corruption investigation in Illinois. [my emphasis]

All counsel given to a President is privileged and thus comes under executive privilege. He is not breaking the law and there will be no criminal action.
Furthermore you criticize politicians and then blindly accept that this is a nonpartisan action? You are either being naive or dishonest.

Hours before the House version of the first Patriot Act went to a vote, "technical corrections" were inserted into the body of the legislation whereby foreign security companies such as ICTS-International would be immune from lawsuits related to the events of 9/11. Another point that has slipped off the collective 'map' of 9-11 is that the shipper/trader organization, Zim International, broke its lease in the days before 9-11. It vacated rather quickly.
What is interesting about Zim International is that it is a corporation half owned by the Israeli Government.
Another point that is interesting is that despite the cover being "rent was high," why loose $40,000 right then and there for breaking your lease? And is money really all that important when you are half owned by a subsidy-based state like the State of Israel?

Between April 1998 and May 2002, some $51-73,000 in checks and cashier's checks were provided by the Saudi Ambassador to the United States and his wife to two families in southern California, who in turn bankrolled at least two of the 9/11 hijackers. The story was investigated by the 9/11 Commission, but never fully resolved, and remains, to this day, one of the key unanswered questions concerning the backing for the worst terrorist attack ever to occur on U.S. soil.
According to numerous news accounts and the records of the 9/11 Commission, in April 1998, a Saudi national named Osama Basnan wrote to the Saudi Embassy in Washington, D.C., seeking help for his wife, Majeda Dweikat, who needed surgery for a thyroid condition. Prince Bandar bin-Sultan, the Saudi Ambassador, wrote a check for $15,000 to Basnan. Beginning in December 1999, Princess Haifa, the wife of Prince Bandar, began sending regular monthly cashier checks to Majeda Dweikat, in amounts ranging from $2,000 to $3,500. Many of these checks were signed over to Manal Bajadr, the wife of Omar al-Bayoumi, another Saudi living in the San Diego area.
Around New Year's Day 2000, two other Saudi nationals, Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar, arrived at Los Angeles International Airport, where they were greeted by al-Bayoumi, provided with cash, and outfitted with an apartment, Social Security ID cards, and other financial assistance. Al-Bayoumi helped the two Saudi men to enrolled in flight schools in Florida. Two months before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, al-Bayoumi moved to England, and shortly after that, he disappeared altogether. But before his disappearance, and within days of the 9/11 attacks, agents of New Scotland Yard, working in conjunction with the FBI, raided his apartment in England and found papers hidden beneath the floorboards, according to Newsweek magazine, that had the phone numbers of several officials at the Saudi Embassy in Washington. Al-Bayoumi was suspected by the Arab community in the San Diego area of being an agent of Saudi intelligence, which kept tabs on Saudi residents in the area, particularly Saudi students attending college in southern California.
Sources have told EIR researchers that Basnan was also long suspected of being an agent for Saudi Arabia's foreign intelligence service. According to the sources, Basnan was arrested for drug possession in southern California and the Saudi government intervened to get the charges dropped; Basnan also befriended Alhazmi and Almihdhar prior to their deaths on American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon. At one point, the Basnans, the al-Bayoumis, and the two 9/11 hijackers all lived at the Parkwood Apartments in San Diego.
Prince Bandar and Princess Haifa denied they played any role in financing the 9/11 hijackers, and claimed that they were merely providing charitable assistance to the Saudi community in the United States. The two co-chairs of the Senate Intelligence Committee at the time, Robert Graham (D-Fla.) and Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), accused the FBI of failing to fully pursue this "9/11 money trail." Sources told EIR that the FBI refused to allow the committee to interview the FBI investigators who had probed the Basnan and al-Bayoumi links.
While Congressional and law enforcement sources insist to EIR investigators that all available leads were pursued and no compelling evidence of Saudi involvement in 9/11 was established, other U.S. intelligence sources maintain that many fruitful areas of investigation simply reached dead-ends before any final conclusions could be drawn. And these sources report that some of the Al-Yamamah funds, including some funds that passed through the Riggs Bank accounts in Washington, financed a migration of Muslim Brotherhood members to the United States, throughout the 1980s and 1990s. That hardly constitutes a smoking gun, these sources emphasize, but raises serious unanswered questions, particularly in light of the fact that the official staff reports of the 9/11 Commission featured a detailed debriefing of Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, the purported mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, who admitted that he had been a member of the Muslim Brotherhood since he was 16 years old.

Majed & Mahmoud Atta lived and worked just 2 miles down the road from Khalil bin Laden in Winter Garden, FL. Khalil's home address in Winter Garden can be found on the FBI's 9/11 suspect list under the name Geny Castanheira from Brazil (17920 W. Colonial Dr.). Khalil happens to be the Saudi ambassador to Brazil... and a known terrorist.

[A] seizure of $27,000 by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department during a traffic stop [occurred] in March [2004]... The vehicle was occupied by Palestinian immigrants Atiya Saleh and Shareef Quattom and Jordanian immigrant Majed Atta, all of New Orleans, who claimed the money originated from a business transaction... Lincoln County Sheriff Wiley Calcote questioned that account. "The only document they had was that they had sold one store and were buying another store, but there was nothing tying the money to that transaction, and they gave conflicting information about the amount and origin of the money," Calcote said.
This may not come as a surprise to our regular readers, as we recently published a story with the headline 'Terror Suspect Tied to Moroccan Military Attaché'. However, the connections of the Moroccan embassy in Washington D.C. to the 9/11 plot run deep. The above information buried in the notes of the 9/11 Commission's report confirms that fact. At least the Commission did not succeed in its goal of a complete 'whitewash', though nothing more is mentioned regarding Atta's contacts with the Moroccan embassy.
For those who did not catch the story (or click on the link and read the first few paragraphs) here is the basics. It starts in tiny Punta Gorda, Florida, a town literally founded by the CIA.
As the St. Louis Post-Dispatch put it, "Founded in 1958 by two former CIA colleagues, publicly held Punta Gorda had been one of Florida's largest landholders".

The Hamouda's also housed Mohammed Arara, who is listed on multiple FBI 9/11 Suspect Lists. One of the more detailed FBI lists contains a handful of addresses for Arara, three of which are owned by the Hamoudas (This 'unique' family plays a leading role in 'Welcome to Terrorland').
Additionally, Arara is an FAA-certified commercial pilot. This could explain why the FBI's addresses for Arara border upon airports in Punta Gorda, Sarasota and Lake Worth, FL. While in the U.S., Atta only trained at four airports: in Venice, and of course, Punta Gorda, Sarasota and Lake Worth. And when Atta lived in Coral Springs, FL, Arara was using a mailing address only 2000 feet away from Atta's apartment.
So then, who is Mohammed Arara? This 9/11 suspect is also a relative and business partner of the Military Attaché for the Moroccan Embassy in D.C., Colonel Ahmed Arara.
Perhaps this is why Atta would be calling the Moroccan Embassy in Washington... perhaps. And perhaps connections with wanted 9/11 terrorists has something to do with this federal court case involving the ever-present Hamoudas and John Ashcroft:

German newspaper Die Zeit... uncovered details of a major Israeli spy ring involving some a 120 agents for the intelligence service Mossad operating across America and some masquerading as arts students. The ring was reportedly hard on the heels of at least four members of the hijack gang, including its leader Mohammed Atta. But the Israeli agents were detected by their American counterparts and thrown out of the country, it says. Just a month before the deadly attacks, the paper said, Mossad handed over to the Americans a detailed report naming several suspects they believe were preparing an attack on the United States.

Watching the river (of heroin) flow
As far back as 1991, military investigators had been detailed to Hamburg Germany, tracking what one military investigator who was there told us were Al Qaeda heroin flows from Afghanistan to the West.
A two-year investigation in Venice, Fl. into the flight school attended by Atta and his bodyguard Marwan Al-Shehhi and which provided them with their cover while in the U.S. unearthed the amazing fact that during the same month the two men began flying lessons at Huffman Aviation, July of 2000, the flight schools owner's Lear jet was seized on the runway of Orlando Executive Airport by Federal Agents who found 43-pounds of heroin onboard.
43 pounds of heroin is known in the drug trade as heavy weight.
In a story in the August 2, 2000 Orlando Sentinel authorities called the bust the biggest drug seizure in central Florida history.
It confirms the sad fact that a massive amount of heroin is coming through Central Florida, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration special agent Brent Eaton told the paper. Its very disturbing to the DEA that more and more high quality heroin is coming from Colombia and at a cheaper price.
The DEA was very disturbed enough to look more closely at Wally Hilliards jet charter operation. The result was their firm opposition to returning the Lear to Hilliard, even though no one from Hilliards company, Plane 1 Leasing, had been charged with any crime.
In fact, they did nothing of the sort, which strongly indicates that the Armys secret military intelligence unit Able Dangers inability to prod federal authorities to move on Atta and other terrorists known to be in the U.S. encountered the same obstacles, and for the same reason.
In fact, the only effort made at holding financier Wallace J. Hilliard, 70, of Naples, Florida accountable was the weak one of confiscating his plane. When Hilliard sued to get the DEA to return the Lear jet inn forfeiture hearings, attempting to show himself to have been an innocent owner, his motion was opposed by the Government and roundly rejected in court.
The U.S. Attorneys office opposed the plane's return. Their motion said, because the property was used or acquired as a result of a violation of the Controlled Substances Act.
Court documents revealed that Hilliards leasing company, Plane 1 Leasing, had been paid in cash for each charter by the two Latin passengers, which aviation experts in South Florida said strains credulity.
DEA would not return it, they auctioned it off, they told Wally they had reasons, said an aviation source in Naples. It was the first seizure in history for a so-called innocent person where they took and kept the plane.
The court concluded Hilliards company knew what was going on. Affidavits later filed by the machine-gun toting DEA agents who had surrounded the Lear jet indicated Hilliard's company's involvement went much deeper than anyone was willing to acknowledge publicly.
Amazingly, the smuggling operation being protected continues to this day.
The pilot of Hilliard's busted Lear, Venezuelan Diego Levine Texar, was not taken into custody.
The pilot was not arrested, according to a DEA spokesman, because of a lack of evidence, reported the Orlando Sentinel. He has since been identified as also being the chief pilot on Venezuelas Air Force One, which provides a bit of context for last week's news that the State Department was revoking the visas of three Venezuelan military officers suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.
When we first published the DEAs official report to the court about the Orlando heroin bust (read it here) on our website and in the appendix to the book Welcome to TerrorLand, we received a very credible death threat... ever though the report is a public document available to anyone.

And that Florida tabloid editor was the first one to be hit! I think you are right. Actually this Florida paper was the only one to public the "drunk Jenna and tonic" Bush daughter pic, where she's humping another girls leg at a party as a floor show. Now regardless of what I care or think of that (not much), that Bush depends on the total lie of his "conservative values", obviously pissed off some people in the White House who ordered the anthrax hit on the guy.
It was additionally rumored that the paper was given a nude George W. Bush picture in a coffin either mastrubating or having sex with another man. St. Joe also owns half of the real estate development firm Codina Group, founded by Armando Codina, a personal friend of George H. W. Bush and one-time business partner of Governor Jeb Bush.
Until 1994, when Jeb Bush first ran for governor, the Codina Group was known as the Codina Bush Group. Since Jeb Bush became governor, he's taken care of his old business friends, selling them state-owned land at cut rate prices.

Evidence recently obtained by prosecutors from German police files show[s]... that Alamoudi also had meetings in the fall of 2000 with Mohammed Belfas, an elder from the Islamic community in Hamburg who had multiple ties to key figures in the September 11 terror attacks. Shortly before his untimely death [very likely murder], former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook told the House of Commons that "Al Qaeda" is not really a terrorist group but a database of international mujaheddin and arms smugglers used by the CIA and Saudis to funnel guerrillas, arms, and money into Soviet-occupied Afghanistan. Courtesy of World Affairs, a journal based in New Delhi, WMR can bring you an important excerpt from an Apr.-Jun. 2004 article by Pierre-Henry Bunel, a former agent for French military intelligence.
"I first heard about Al-Qaida while I was attending the Command and Staff course in Jordan. I was a French officer at that time and the French Armed Forces had close contacts and cooperation with Jordan . . .
"Two of my Jordanian colleagues were experts in computers. They were air defense officers. Using computer science slang, they introduced a series of jokes about students' punishment.
"For example, when one of us was late at the bus stop to leave the Staff College, the two officers used to tell us: 'You'll be noted in 'Q eidat il-Maaloomaat' which meant 'You'll be logged in the information database.' Meaning 'You will receive a warning . . .' If the case was more severe, they would used to talk about 'Q eidat i-Taaleemaat.' Meaning 'the decision database.' It meant 'you will be punished.' For the worst cases they used to speak of logging in 'Al Qaida.'
"In the early 1980s the Islamic Bank for Development, which is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, like the Permanent Secretariat of the Islamic Conference Organization, bought a new computerized system to cope with its accounting and communication requirements. At the time the system was more sophisticated than necessary for their actual needs.
"It was decided to use a part of the system's memory to host the Islamic Conference's database. It was possible for the countries attending to access the database by telephone: an Intranet, in modern language. The governments of the member-countries as well as some of their embassies in the world were connected to that network.
"[According to a Pakistani major] the database was divided into two parts, the information file where the participants in the meetings could pick up and send information they needed, and the decision file where the decisions made during the previous sessions were recorded and stored. In Arabic, the files were called, 'Q eidat il-Maaloomaat' and 'Q eidat i-Taaleemaat.' Those two files were kept in one file called in Arabic 'Q eidat ilmu'ti'aat' which is the exact translation of the English word database. But the Arabs commonly used the short word Al Qaida which is the Arabic word for "base." The military air base of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is called 'q eidat 'riyadh al 'askariya.' Q eida means "a base" and "Al Qaida" means "the base."
"In the mid-1980s, Al Qaida was a database located in computer and dedicated to the communications of the Islamic Conference's secretariat.
"In the early 1990s, I was a military intelligence officer in the Headquarters of the French Rapid Action Force. Because of my skills in Arabic my job was also to translate a lot of faxes and letters seized or intercepted by our intelligence services . . . We often got intercepted material sent by Islamic networks operating from the UK or from Belgium.
"These documents contained directions sent to Islamic armed groups in Algeria or in France. The messages quoted the sources of statements to be exploited in the redaction of the tracts or leaflets, or to be introduced in video or tapes to be sent to the media. The most commonly quoted sources were the United Nations, the non-aligned countries, the UNHCR and . . . Al Qaida.
"Al Qaida remained the data base of the Islamic Conference. Not all member countries of the Islamic Conference are 'rogue states' and many Islamic groups could pick up information from the databases. It was but natural for Osama Bin Laden to be connected to this network. He is a member of an important family in the banking and business world.
"Because of the presence of 'rogue states,' it became easy for terrorist groups to use the email of the database. Hence, the email of Al Qaida was used, with some interface system, providing secrecy, for the families of the mujaheddin to keep links with their children undergoing training in Afghanistan, or in Libya or in the Beqaa valley, Lebanon. Or in action anywhere in the battlefields where the extremists sponsored by all the 'rogue states' used to fight. And the 'rogue states' included Saudi Arabia. When Osama bin Laden was an American agent in Afghanistan, the Al Qaida Intranet was a good communication system through coded or covert messages.
Meet "Al Qaeda"
"Al Qaida was neither a terrorist group nor Osama bin Laden's personal property . . . The terrorist actions in Turkey in 2003 were carried out by Turks and the motives were local and not international, unified, or joint. These crimes put the Turkish government in a difficult position vis-a-vis the British and the Israelis. But the attacks certainly intended to 'punish' Prime Minister Erdogan for being a 'toot tepid' Islamic politician.
" . . . In the Third World the general opinion is that the countries using weapons of mass destruction for economic purposes in the service of imperialism are in fact 'rogue states," specially the US and other NATO countries.
" Some Islamic economic lobbies are conducting a war against the 'liberal" economic lobbies. They use local terrorist groups claiming to act on behalf of Al Qaida. On the other hand, national armies invade independent countries under the aegis of the UN Security Council and carry out pre-emptive wars. And the real sponsors of these wars are not governments but the lobbies concealed behind them.
"The truth is, there is no Islamic army or terrorist group called Al Qaida. And any informed intelligence officer knows this. But there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an identified entity representing the 'devil' only in order to drive the 'TV watcher' to accept a unified international leadership for a war against terrorism. The country behind this propaganda is the US and the lobbyists for the US war on terrorism are only interested in making money."

In yet another example of what happens to those who challenge the system, in December 2001, Maj. Pierre-Henri Bunel was convicted by a secret French military court of passing classified documents that identified potential NATO bombing targets in Serbia to a Serbian agent during the Kosovo war in 1998. Bunel's case was transferred from a civilian court to keep the details of the case classified. Bunel's character witnesses and psychologists notwithstanding, the system "got him" for telling the truth about Al Qaeda and who has actually been behind the terrorist attacks commonly blamed on that group. It is noteworthy that that Yugoslav government, the government with whom Bunel was asserted by the French government to have shared information, claimed that Albanian and Bosnian guerrillas in the Balkans were being backed by elements of "Al Qaeda." We now know that these guerrillas were being backed by money provided by the Bosnian Defense Fund, an entity established as a special fund at Bush-influenced Riggs Bank and directed by Richard Perle and Douglas Feith.

Although White House spokesliar Scott McClellan claims lobbyist/crook du jour Jack Abramoff only met with administration staff two or three times, the scandal ridden buyer of influence enjoyed frequent private meetings with President George W. Bush, who referred to Abramoff as "one of this administration's greatest friends."
In a town where money buys influence and access, it would have been highly unusual for one of the top fundraisers for the Bush White House to not have had meetings with the President.
McClellan, in a carefully-worded response to reporters Tuesday, said his personal investigation into the matter revealed that Abramoff may have had two "private staff level meetings" at the White House. This is the same Scott McClellan who claimed he investigated the Valerie Plame leak and told reporters that neither Vice President Dick Cheney nor anyone on his staff had any involvement in that scandal. Then Cheney's chief of staff, Scooter Libby, got slapped with an indictment for giving the info to the press.
McClellan, as skilled a liar as anyone who has stood before the press and misled reporters on behalf of a President, fails to mention Abramoff's frequent visits to the President's ranch in Crawford, Texas, the private meetings that the lobbyist arranged with the President on the 2004 campaign trail and at the Republican National Convention that year.
White House visitor logs are not public record and the Bush administration keeps separate logs of visitors to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and other locations like Camp David or the President's home. In addition, logs can - and often are - revised when scandal erupts.
But Abramoff, who raised more than $100,000 for Bush in the last campaign, promised big time donors face time with the President and delivered on those promises during the convention. In addition, he traveled to Bush's ranch in Texas with his co-conspirator in crime, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.
